Technology Center PDF Print E-mail

AMD WaferAustin is not only the state capital and the live music capital of the universe; it is also the capital of high tech industry in Texas.  There is a multitude of high-tech firms located in and around Austin that are moving technology and human endeavor forward with some truly remarkable innovations. Cutting–edge technologies, which are changing the world around us, are being developed right here in our own backyard.

What's a Wafer?

Although these companies are in our backyard, do you you know what they are actually doing? Of course we have all heard of "wafers" for example, but what exactly are they? On the left we see a beautiful AMD wafer produced right here in Austin, but what is the use of the shiny disk this man is carrying? The Technology Center is designed to answer all those questions specifically for the local high-tech firms.

Local High-Tech Playground

The Technology Center of the Austin Planetarium will be a playground for local high-tech firms, where new advancements can be showcased and past achievements can be remembered. Most, if not all, of these firms have rather extensive private collections of technologies detailing the history of their development and how they have grown in Central Texas. The Technology Center is the place where they can tell their story and display their past triumphs; to remind us all of where we’ve been and where we’re going in the world of technology. Additionally, the Technology Center will be the perfect venue for companies to share new concepts and designs with the public, while educating visitors about the science behind them.

Dell computers, AMD, Applied Materials, Samsung, Tokyo Electron, etc. The Austin Planetarium Technology Center will be the premiere place for high-tech firms to provide community outreach and breed goodwill, while simultaneously offering educational opportunities. The Technology Center will have an area of 17,500 square feet, and will be split up in individual sections, each dedicated to a seperate high-tech firm.
