Second Mobile Planetarium Campaign
From the day we started with the Mobile Planetarium Program, it has been an incredible hit. In our first year of operations, we treated more than 20,000 school children to a planetarium show at their school. But as is apparent from the graph below, the program has been growing each year, with the first indications for the 2015 school year that this trend is continuing.
However, last year, during the months from April through August, we were completely maxed out in capacity, and we had to turn more than 20 schools away. Obviously we are in dire need for a second mobile planetarium dome to be able to meet this demand, to keep growing, and to provide quality education to Central Texas Schools.
We purchased our first mobile planetarium through a grant from Texas Space Grant Consortium. This time, we are holding a campaign to raise the required money to purchase a second Dome, projector, mirror system, laptop, speakers, and another employee to run it. Please donate to our Second Mobile Planetarium Campaign, so we may continue to provide this unique educational opportunity to Central Texas students. Watch the thermometer go up when you give!
ACChaoS Star Party
Please join us on November 21 from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm for another ACC Star Party at ACC's Round Rock campus. We will be in the lobby of building 2000. It will be a fun and educational night for all. There will be many hands-on activities, an informative public talk and time to view the night sky.
Austin is the largest city in the United States without a planetarium, and therefore our students are truly missing out on an educational experience. For this very reason the Austin Planetarium is running a program specifically to address this problem: the Austin Planetarium Discovery Dome.
